SCHOOL BEGINS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2011!!!

      Several volunteers and staff personnel will be helping children find the correct room on the first day of school. The school day will begin at 8:05 a.m. and end at 3:10 p.m. Students should not arrive at the school before 8:00 a.m.

WILDCAT CONNECTION

The Wildcat Connection will be handed out every other Thursday to Waterford Elementary students. The informational page will contain interesting school news about students, staff, and upcoming events. Be sure to remind your children to bring the information home after school every other Thursday. Additional information will be sent home as needed.

PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK

A Parent/Student Handbook will be given to students on the first day of school. Take time to read the handbook and discuss it with your child.

NEW IMMUNIZATION LAW

Students entering the 7th grade must have a vaccine for measles, mumps, and rubella. If your 7th grade son/daughter has not received this vaccine, please call the Washington County Health Department (374-2782) or your family physician
immediately for an appointment.

ABSENCE POLICY

Parents are to call the school or send a note whenever their child will be absent that day. If we do not hear from you we must contact you at home or at work. (High school: 984-2373 or Elementary: 984-2342).

MEDICINE ADMINISTRATION

Ohio State Law and our local Board Policy forbid school employees from dispensing medicine to students. If it is absolutely necessary for your child to have medicine at school we must have the following: (1) A note from the parent stating the exact amount, the time medicine should be given and specific directions; (2) A signed form from your doctor stating the name of the medicine, exact dosage, duration and possible side effects. The prescription bottle will not be enough; (3) Send only enough medicine for one dose.

Waterford Elementary School Supplies

Kindergarten - Four packs (2 in a pack) of .21 oz Elmer's glue sticks, paint shirt (an adult T-shirt with the sleeves cut to fit), one box of tissues, one box of 8 Crayola crayons, one box of Clorox wipes, girls bring one-quart Ziploc baggies and boys bring one gallon Ziploc baggies. Please put your child's name on everything-supplies, lunch box, coats,etc

Grade 1- One box 24 count Crayola crayons, one pencil box, one black 1 ½ inch 3 ring binder (hard back), one backpack (preferably without wheels), one box of tissues (if you send two we always need them), two erasers, four .77 oz Elmer's glue sticks, ten No. 2 pencils, one pair frisker pointed end scissors, boys bring one box of one gallon Ziploc bags and one container of Clorox wipes and girls bring one box of one quart Ziploc bags and one container of Clorox wipes, and one black 1 ½ inch 3 ring binder (hard back).

Grade 2 - Box of crayons, scissors, a large box of tissues, erasers, glue stick, ten No. 2 pencils, two Dry Eraser Markers, and disinfectant wipes.

Grade 3 - No. 2 pencils (no pens), large erasers, scissors, rulers, zipper pouches for pencils, Art box, glue, crayons, 2 reams of notebook paper (wide-ruled), 5 folders (with pockets), Composition book for science journal, Clorox wipes, tissues (large box) and Ziploc bags (girls bring quart size and boys bring gallon size.).

Grade 4 - No. 2 pencils, 2 big erasers, Clorox Wipes, 6 single-subject notebooks, 4 pocket folders, colored pencils, highlighters, 4 glue sticks, 4 dry erase markers, 1 package notebook paper, boys bring quart size Ziploc bags and girls bring gallon size Ziploc bags, crayons, tissues, art box, paper, and scissors.

Grade 5 - Two large boxes of tissues, No. 2 pencils, notebook paper, art box, crayons, scissors, highlighters, colored pencils, ruler, black or blue ink pens, a small pencil sharpener, erasers, trapper keeper or notebook with folders, notebook for every class, and a folder for every class.

Grade 6 - Two large boxes of tissues, Clorox wipes, No. 2 pencils, three pronged folders, notebook paper, art box, crayons, scissors, highlighters, colored pencils, ruler, compass, black or blue ink pens, a small pencil sharpener, erasers, protractor, trapper keeper or notebook with a folder for every class.

Grades 7 & 8 - #2 pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, black/blue pens, three large 3-ring binders, college ruled filler paper, 8-10 section dividers for binder, scientific calculator, tissues, Clorox Wipes, and Baby Wipes.

      Several items will be given out to students of Waterford Elementary School on the
first day of school. These will include insurance forms, schedules, emergency
medical cards, free lunch applications, and a variety of other information.

**Nurse Request for grades K-8: Box of latex-free, fabric band aids, any size.

      The following students will be participating in the Regional Spelling Bee Competition at the Marietta High School on Friday, March 11, 2011: First place: Madison Sury, Second place: Derek Huck, third place: Noah Hilverding, and fourth place: Daniel Espinoza. The Spelling Bee was held in the high school band room on Monday evening, February 7th. The Spelling Bee is sponsored by the Marietta Times.
